I wasn't able to post any pictures from our last field trip to the lo'i yet because my phone decided to go on vacation. I almost thought I lost all my photos and videos when my phone was stuck on the apple logo. It's back up and running so I will work on posting pictures soon.
Auction (repeat from other week)
I'm hoping to do a student auction before the end of the year (tentatively May 29th) to give students a chance to spend some of their superbucks they have been working hard to earn and keep. I need your help. I'm looking for donations for items fourth grade students would be happy to bid for. Some ideas are school supplies (mechanical pencils, erasers, notebooks, colored pens, etc), craft kits, Jamba juice gift cards, movie tickets, small toys, etc. I'm trying to stay away from food items unless it's a coupon to get something (like those McDonald's coupon books or 7-11 coupon books). If you are unable to purchase the items yourself but would like to contribute a monetary donation, I can pick up items they might like. If anyone has connections to companies willing to donate items or gift cards, that works too. Ask your child for ideas they might be interested in bidding for. Please send in any donations by May 18th. Smaller donations may be combined together as a gift pack.
Thank you Mineshima ohana for the donations! The students will love it!
Our Spring Celebration, "Dancing Through the Decades," is fast approaching. The big event is on Friday, May 18th from 9:00-11:00am. School will end at 12:45pm on Friday and 2:10pm on Wednesday, 5/16. Thank you families for returning the intended lunch count and early release. If your child still has it, please have him/her turn it in ASAP to help us plan for Friday. The students continue to practice their routine in school and should also practice daily at home. I uploaded the track that contains their walk on music with their main dance number to the Spring Celebration link.
The shirts are done and will be kept in school so students can change into it Friday morning. Thank you Mrs. Sasuga for helping to cut out the designs for the grade level! Thank you Farias ohana for the extra shirt so all students could have one. Girls are welcome to wear an undershirt or tank top underneath if they wish. Students are asked to wear dark colored shorts and shoes for Friday.
Students will most likely be asked to leave their school bags at home. If your child will be going home after the event (at 11:00 am), the shirt they change out of will be kept in the classroom and can be taken home on Monday, 5/21.
Two important assignments are due next week:
1. Island Design-due Tuesday, 5/15
2. Career Lap Folder-due Thursday, 5/17
All work on your child's incomplete sheet must be taken care of by Friday, May 17th so I can close up the year and complete grades by the end of the month.
I hope you found the weekly updates helpful this year. It was something I've been wanting to try since my kids started preschool. The final two posts have been uploaded. To help me decide whether to continue a weekly blog next year, I would appreciate you taking a few minutes to fill out a survey. Click on the link below to access the survey. It will be open until the end of the month.
"Our Week" Survey
Since there will not be anymore new posts to "Our Week," some of the things we will be doing in the next couple weeks as we close out the year include:
- Analyzing shape patterns
- Converting between units
- Calculating elapsed time
- Working with seconds
- Improving our writing introductions and conclusions
- Grammar-using prepositions
- Electricity-wiring a house (shoebox)
Students will need a shopping bag to take home their supplies the last week of school. Please do not bring it in yet. I will inform the students when to bring it.
Please let me know if you anticipate your child's last day to be earlier than Thursday, May 31st.
