Students were informed that the last day to catch up with work on their incomplete sheet is Friday, December 15th. Once your child completes an assignment, he/she is supposed to ask for the answer key to check their work for most assignments and then show me their scored assignment and incomplete sheet so I can sign off that it was taken care of. Some students say they finished the work, but they still haven't scored it or showed it to me with their incomplete sheet.
Also due by December 15th to Mrs. Sylvester is the health extra credit assignment.
The last day of the quarter is Thursday, December 21st. Our class will be having a secret santa gift exchange. Students who choose to participate should bring in a gift (under $5) Students may also choose to make something for the gift exchange. Examples might include a craft, keychain, artwork, etc. The item should be appropriate for either gender.
We will also celebrate with a friendship mix. Each student should bring in a sandwich-sized ziploc bag of their favorite (dry, non-perishable) snack. We will combine all snacks together and redistribute for students to enjoy. Examples of what to contribute: popcorn, cereal, arare, chips, cookies, etc.
If your child would like to share treats with the class in celebration of the holiday season, it is best if it is something that can be easily pack into the students' bag. School ends at 12:45 p.m. on the 21st.
Word problems is often a challenge for students of all ages. To help them visualize what to do with the numbers, we have been practicing drawing pictures and/or diagrams. Some students have been writing equations and then drawing a picture to match, but it should be the other way around-draw a picture and then write equations that match. I returned SIU 6.5 to the students. Your child can practice solving the two problems we did not do. (Answers: (e) 432 players (f) 252 tulips).
Students will be taking module 6 check ups 1 & 2 the week of December 11-15 and then the quarterly assessment (concepts from modules 4-6) the following week. The last few lessons of module 6 focuses on working with angles. Students will be using a protractor to measure and draw angles. Common mistakes students make include not reading the correct numbers (top or bottom) and not attending to precision when identifying which line it matches up with. To help your child practice working with angles, the following IXL skills are available: Level F: skills Z1-Z5.
PRE's "Wild West Book Fair: Saddle Up and Read" will be from Monday, December 11th-Tuesday, December 19th in our school's library until 3:30pm each day. Our class will visit the book fair on Tuesday afternoon. Your child will have the opportunity to make purchases during that time. Please minimize the amount of cash your child brings to school. I will ask for the students' input on books they would like to have in our classroom library (to be added to the classroom wish list) when we visit that day.
