The children did an awesome job of maintaining focus and putting forth the effort during the SBA-ELA interim testing. Thank you for supporting their education by sending them to school on time each day to help them do their best.
WA 2.2 (not 2.4)
Your child is bringing home their WA 2.2 assessment. I just realized the homework assignment on the board was listed as WA 2.4. Hmm...no one corrected me.
This assessment tested their understanding of identifying theme and the vocabulary strategy of using synonyms and antonyms to define unfamiliar words. They were also asked to write a response that focused on the comprehension strategy: Theme. Some students had difficulty figuring out the theme of the story. Others had trouble citing text evidence and using clear, specific examples to support the theme. We practiced creating a one-sided multi-flow map with our RWW and Literature Anthology through the story Ranita, the Frog Princess. Students should use their maps to help them write their response. To help students, we refer to the acronym RACER when answering response questions.
Answer all parts of the question
Cite sources & evidence
For the remainder of this semester, students will be given specific criteria to help them answer the question completely. In the second semester, students will need to learn to read the question carefully and figure out what is being asked, which is what they will be expected to do independently on the SBA in April. We will continue to practice making maps and using the details from the map to write a thorough response.
