Math

  • Using tape diagrams (model drawing) to compare involving division and subtraction and other word problems
  • Length: Relationship between meters, centimeters and millimeters
    • 1 m = 100 cm = 1,000 mm
    • 1 cm = 10 mm
    • # of meters x 100 = # of centimeters
    • # of meters x 1000 = # of millimeters
    • # of centimeters x 10 = # of millimeters

Language Arts

  • Main Idea & Key Details
    • Main idea is the big idea or point the author is trying to get across
    • Key details help to prove the main idea
    • Used a one-sided multi-flow map to identify main idea & key details (see picture)
Picture
  • Vocabulary strategy: Prefixes
    • un- = not
    • re- = again
    • dis- = opposite of
  • Grammar: Subject nouns and predicate nouns
    • Grammar pkt p. 48-49 (optional) 
    • Answer key available on Google Classroom
    • Grammar game on Wonders online (student login required)

Social Studies

  • Geography
    • Applied knowledge of longitude and latitude to plot the 8 main Hawaiian islands
    • Students will be expected to place the island groups in the correct location, identify each island and spell the islands correctly 
    • Test date TBD after their maps are returned to them

Misc

  • SBA-ELA interim testing
  • Rotations-Art with Mr. Banes
    • Working on a petroglyph design
    • Finish cutting out design, DO NOT throw anything away
    • Will finish the rest of the assignment in class on 11/27
  • Music-music composition assignment postponed until after winter break
  • Career
    • Students listened to three speakers on career day and learned about one of the following fields:
      1. Police 
      2. Nursing
      3. Management
      4. Dietician
    • Assignment: Complete reflection on the back of the career book. Students should be sure to answer all parts of the questions carefully and can expand on their answers by explaining further. Due Wednesday, Nov 22nd​
  • Brain breaks
    • We have been taking short breaks in class to get our bodies active after long periods of sitting. Ask your child which brain break activity they enjoyed the most this week.
