Aloha C1-C Families,
Thank you for your patience. It's been quite a challenging week! It is for that reason, the fourth-grade teachers felt it was best to try to keep things simple for the suggested enrichment activities. A link will be available on the PRE site soon at http://pearlrid.k12.hi.us/ where you can find the distance learning documents for each grade level. I am including a copy in this email for your reference. I am still setting up accounts and haven't posted it to google classroom so not all of the resources are available yet. I hope to have it set up and posted by Monday, March 30th. I also am working on updating our class site to include links to the suggested activities. Please only have your child do what your family situation allows them to do. Students are not being graded or evaluated on these enrichment activities.
The Origo Math at home is a great resource to maintain what we have been learning and what we should be learning for the fourth quarter, but it does require more parent participation and support than the other tasks. It may also be a different approach to teaching math than what you may be used to so if you need to skip any or all activities from that resource, it's okay. I'm waiting to see how and if the Math Student Journal will align with the online resource and that may be an additional option for students to practice their math.
Your child can continue to work on their iReady and daily reading. Your child is welcome to continue logging their reading, but it's not required. The beanstack app is an alternative way you can have your child track his/her reading. It's linked with the Hawaii State Library system and used during their Summer Reading Program, but can continue to be used througout the year. You either scan the ISBN number on the book or manually enter the book title and it can track the time read in addition to the pages read.
If you are looking for additional enrichment for your child, the DOE has a list of them and can be found at bit.ly/HIDOEVirtualLearningParentResource. Scroll to the bottom and click on "Student" to access the choice boards for all grades.
It is not expected that students need to complete 6 hours of academics while school is not in session. Aside from academics, this is a great time to do other things together as a family such as crafts, exercising, cooking, games, etc.
I miss seeing the children's smiling faces I'm hoping to set up a time to connect with the students online so participating students can chat for a bit and see each other. If you could please complete the survey below as soon as possible, I'd appreciate it.
Distance learning survey
This is a difficult time for all of us, but together we will get through it. Please take care and stay healthy. Email me if you have questions and I will do my best to respond to you as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Au
