Change in dismissal times
School ends at 2:10pm on Wednesday and 12:45pm on Friday. Please plan accordingly if you are picking up your child. Maika'i Performance Fourth graders are performing at the Maikai Assembly tomorrow and we are asking the students to wear red, green and/or white tops. They are welcome to wear festive accessories such as a Santa hat as long as it's not a distraction and doesn't block the view of others behind them. This event is limited to the parents of the quarter 2 Maika'i recipients. There are plans to have them perform the number they have been practicing for Spring Celebration in May so all parents have an opportunity to see their child. Secret Santa If your child will be participating in the Secret Santa gift exchange on Thursday, December 19th, please bring in a wrapped gift ($5 and under) by Thursday. Please remember to select something that either gender can enjoy. Daiso has many options to choose from. Our Week This week we are wrapping up the quarter, finishing up assessments so no weekly update will be posted on "Our Week" page. Aloha C1-C Families,
We have some extra cookies leftover from our fundraiser. There are bags of triple chocolate with nuts and a couple of bags of chocolate chip. Cost if $8/bag. You can buy them from the office-first come, first served. The money raised will go towards our grade-level activities. Also, we are ONE letter away from spelling our THIRD P-E-R-F-E-C-T! The students are excited to get their last letter so they can earn 5 minutes of extra recess. Thank you for sending your child to school on time every day. :) As a side note, we have been working on our iReady Diagnostic-Math. It's taking quite a bit longer than expected, so we will most likely need to continue the diagnostic next week as well. Please commend your child for the effort they are putting forth. The students are taking the diagnostic seriously and working hard to show their thinking before committing to an answer. They also have been maintaining a positive attitude, which helps them to persevere through the challenges they face. Way to go, C1-C!!! Due to the diagnostic currently in progress, please do not have your child work on iReady-Math at home until they finish their test. Beginning Thursday, do not work on iReady-Reading at home. I will let you know when all the students are done. Thank you for your continued support. Let the count down to Christmas begin! I hope you are in better shape than me when it comes to completing your Christmas shopping list. I haven't started yet. Eek! Have a great evening! ~Mrs. Au Book Fair

The last day of the second quarter is Friday, December 20th. Our Wednesday and Friday schedules are switched so Wednesday dismissal will be 2:10 and Friday dismissal is 12:45. Please plan accordingly. With the end of the quarter coming to a quick end, students will be busy wrapping up the quarter and taking their end of unit and quarter assessments. If you know your child will be out on a certain day or will be leaving early for a trip or any other reason, please let me know. iReady Diagnostic The students will be taking their winter iReady diagnostic for Math and Reading next week. The information below was shared at the beginning of the year when they did their Fall assessment. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning. What can I do to help? To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:
The i-Ready Diagnostic will provide results that help me identify your child’s strengths and determine next steps for instruction. I look forward to sharing these results with you throughout the year and providing a learning experience that will engage your child while teaching important skills and concepts. If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter. Holiday celebration/secret santa gift exchange The class would like to do a Secret Santa gift exchange to celebrate the holiday. If your child will be participating, please have him/her bring in a wrapped gift (value no more than $5). Students will not know who will be the lucky recipient of their gift so please bring in an item that could be enjoyed by either gender. Suggestions of what you could get include a gift card, small toy or puzzle, book, supplies such as pencils, erasers, notebooAk, etc. The book fair may have items under $5 that students would enjoy. Your child may start bringing in their secret santa gift the week of December 16th. We will do the exchange on Thursday, December 19th. I plan to have a sub on Friday, December 20th so I can attend my daughter's Kindergarten activity. If your child will be sharing any treats with the class, bring it on Thursday, December 19th as well. It's easiest if the items are not labeled for specific students and it is packaged so it can easily be packed in the students' backpacks. Please remember that we have students in our class with food allergies. Inc work on incomplete sheet With the end of the quarter coming up, all work on the students' incomplete sheet must completed, corrected and/or turned in by Friday, December 13th.
