End of quarter
The last day of the second quarter is Friday, December 20th. Our Wednesday and Friday schedules are switched so Wednesday dismissal will be 2:10 and Friday dismissal is 12:45. Please plan accordingly.
With the end of the quarter coming to a quick end, students will be busy wrapping up the quarter and taking their end of unit and quarter assessments. If you know your child will be out on a certain day or will be leaving early for a trip or any other reason, please let me know.
iReady Diagnostic
The students will be taking their winter iReady diagnostic for Math and Reading next week. The information below was shared at the beginning of the year when they did their Fall assessment.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
What can I do to help?
To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:
The i-Ready Diagnostic will provide results that help me identify your child’s strengths and determine next steps for instruction. I look forward to sharing these results with you throughout the year and providing a learning experience that will engage your child while teaching important skills and concepts.
If you have any questions about i-Ready, please do not hesitate to contact me or the school. You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
Holiday celebration/secret santa gift exchange
The class would like to do a Secret Santa gift exchange to celebrate the holiday. If your child will be participating, please have him/her bring in a wrapped gift (value no more than $5). Students will not know who will be the lucky recipient of their gift so please bring in an item that could be enjoyed by either gender. Suggestions of what you could get include a gift card, small toy or puzzle, book, supplies such as pencils, erasers, notebooAk, etc. The book fair may have items under $5 that students would enjoy. Your child may start bringing in their secret santa gift the week of December 16th. We will do the exchange on Thursday, December 19th. I plan to have a sub on Friday, December 20th so I can attend my daughter's Kindergarten activity.
If your child will be sharing any treats with the class, bring it on Thursday, December 19th as well. It's easiest if the items are not labeled for specific students and it is packaged so it can easily be packed in the students' backpacks. Please remember that we have students in our class with food allergies.
Inc work on incomplete sheet
With the end of the quarter coming up, all work on the students' incomplete sheet must completed, corrected and/or turned in by Friday, December 13th. Students who are all caught up with their work will get to participate in the Movie Day scheduled for December 17th.

A big mahalo to all the students and families who have supported the 4th graders by purchasing Ono Pops. We will have our final sale on Thursday, December 12th at 2:15pm in the breezeway. - Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment.
- Try their best on each question and try not to rush.
- Try not to worry about questions they do not know—remind them that it is expected that they will only get about half of the questions correct.
- Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.
- Use paper and pencil to show work for math questions.
